Galaxy Blessings
Hello, folks!
Elle here with a trendy project featuring a hand-painted galaxy and a sweet couple of critters from Happy Fall stamp set.
I absolutely love the dreamy watercolor look, but watercolor can be a tricky medium to work with. I decided to try my hand at creating a watercolor galaxy. I thought this galaxy would be the perfect backdrop for the sweet bunny and mouse from Happy Fall - as it looks like they're sitting together, stargazing.
I started painting the galaxy by adding water to my watercolor paper in the shape of a circle. This is a great natural way to keep a simple shape, and would also help my colors blend. I dropped in some purple and blue in the middle of the circle. Then, I added black color all around the edges and let the water do its magic. Once the piece was completely dry, it looked ephemeral and dreamy - just as galaxies tend to.
I stamped the bunny and the mouse from Happy Fall with the Coffee Bean inkpad from the Cobblestone set. I colored them very simply with my alcohol markers. I kept the colors to a minimum, adding just a bit of purple and teal to their scarves. This would allow the image to contrast against the galaxy, but also tie in with the colors I used for the background. I set them aside to add a bunch of stars to my galaxy background - using a paintbrush to splatter some white paint to make stars and constellations.
For the card base, I used a piece of teal cardstock to which I adhered a purple strip of paper from the awesome Wicked 6x6 paper pad. Aside from adding a bit of interest to the front panel, it also helped carry my palette of purple and teal. I stamped the sentiment in Raven ink under the sweet critters. I popped my front panel on some foam tape for extra dimension, and finished the card off with some sparkly sequins.
Thank you so much for today and make sure to come back tomorrow for more inspiration!
