Summer Poppies
Hello friends and welcome back to the LDRS inspiration blog. Today I'm playing with the Poppy Posy set and this set is SO versatile it has several pieces available including: the Poppy Posy 4x6 stamp set, the coordinating dies, the layering stencils (these three also come in a bundle, and the Poppy Posy Impression Dies. I'm using the Impression Dies for this card, which create an absolutely stunning result. Let's get started.
I'm making an A2, side folding card today on a cream color base. I wanted a soft look to the background to allow the poppy to shine. My card panel is a double layer of white and the top layer is also the same cream as the base and die cut using the A2 Stitched Layered Frames Die Set in the smallest size. I spritzed this layer with a bit of shimmer spray and set aside to dry.
Next up is a lot of die cutting and paper piecing, which I absolutely LOVE! I used a little bit of an orangy red, which I feel is more of a poppy color. Red is so hard to photograph properly. I also die cut from green for the leaves and white for the border. Lastly, I die cut from a peach for the flower centers. The shadow layer was die cut from heavy vellum as I wanted it to disappear into the background as well and add softness. It adds stability and a gluing base, but doesn't distract from the beauty of this flower.
I ink blended each of the individual petals and leaves to add a dimensional look. You wouldn't have to do this step, but I thought it added a little extra oomph. I just added the littlest color around the lower and side edges of the petals and all around the leaves and flower centers. I used LDRS Hybrid Inks in Scarlet Rose for the flower petals, Prickly Pear for the leaves and Peachy Keen for the flower centers.
I assembled by gluing the white flower frame to the vellum shadow layer, then one by one added the petals and leaves. It's therapy to sit and paper piece for sure!! Before adhering the flower to the card panel, I stamped the sentiment from the Poppy Posy Stamp set in Watermark Ink and heat embossed the sentiment using gold metallic embossing powder. I glued down the flower to the panel, then adhered the panel to the base using foam strips. Lastly, I finished the card with opalescent enamel dots for a little added soft shine. Please notice the fine details this die set adds to the die cuts. The Impression Dies are amazing! I'm so in love!
I hope you've enjoyed this card today! Have a wonderful rest of your summer! See you soon. Crafty hugs, LeeAnn
