Fancy Fold Card with Partial Die Cutting
Hi there, Sam on the blog today. Creating a fun fancy fold card or in this case simple fold card is a great way to highlight a large stamp and die. The Sea Shack Stamp, Die and Stencils is a nice size to fit on the front of an A2 card while still leaving a nice border around it.
If you wish to recreate the card I made, you will need the following products, otherwise dig through your stash to see what large images with dies you have. I used: The Sea Shack Stamp, Die and Stencils and You Are My Anchor Impress-ion Press and Die
-
On the front panel of an A2 card base, score 1 3/4” from the bottom. I find it useful to start with scoring the card, since it gives you a visual reference line for when you position the stamp.
-
Using the score line for reference position the Sea Shack stamp so that the lower portion is below the score crease and most of the stamp sits above it. Stamp with black ink,
-
Pick out what colours of ink you would like to use.
-
Align the sea shack stencils over the image and attach with low tack tape or place on a sticky mat.
-
Ink blend over the stencils. To get a 2-tone effect use a brush to selectively apply a 2nd ink colour to the stencil or start with heavy application and fade off to light.
-
With a larger stencil brush add some light blue ink colour around the edge of the card.
-
Place the die over the image. Position the die cut machine plates to line up with score line on the card. Allowing the remainder of the card to sit outside the cutting plates. (Remember to open the A2 card flat, so that you don’t cut through the card base, ask me how I know ; )
-
Some of the smaller die cut images are separate from the main image and will separate out. Take the loose die cut images and with the A2 card closed, position and glue the peices back into the die cut openings. Now, when you open the card you have images on the inside.
-
Stamp, stencil and die cut one of the individual fishes. Die cut 2 more layers and glue them all together. Position and glue the fish on the card base with the top aligning approximately 1 3/4” up from the bottom. This creates a little stopper for the fold to prop against.
-
Stamp the sentiment that you like in the corner.
-
With dark brown ink use the You Are My Anchor Impress-ion Press with your Betterpress and add some additional ink shading, then die cut it out.
-
Lastly add the anchor so it overlaps the fold in the card. The top of the anchor makes a nice little handle to open card and portion the fold next to the stopper fish.
