Shaker Card Made Easy with Frame Dies

Hi there, Sam here on the blog! I’m having a blast mixing and matching all the creative elements in the Postage Collage Collection to come up with different looks. One of my absolute favorites is the Postage Collage Mask Stencil —it makes masking off those little squares super easy! This shaker card was inspired by Eileen Lum while I was admiring the fantastic LDRS card samples and products at one of my local paper crafting stores, Glitter and Ink. For some reason, it took seeing a sample of the Postage Collage Layering Die as a shaker card to spark the idea to try it myself!

If you want to recreate the shaker card I made, you'll need the following products: Postage Collage Mask Stencil, Postage Collage Layering Die, Nested Postage Collage Die, Pattern Background Stencils, Here Comes the Sun Postage Collage Stencil and LDRS Hybrid Inks in Pink Tutu, Boysenberry Blast, Peachy Keen, Dan-D-Lion, Tangerine Dream, Olive Branch, Key Lime Pie, Bali Blue, Little Boy Blue, Plum Crazy and Grape Ape.

  • Die cut: Cut out the main die from the Nested Postage Collage Die.
  • Choose Inks: Select your preferred colors from the LDRS Hybrid Inks. I choose LDRS Hybrid Inks in Pink Tutu, Boysenberry Blast, Peachy Keen, Dan-D-Lion, Tangerine Dream, Olive Branch, Key Lime Pie, Bali Blue, Little Boy Blue, Plum Crazy and Grape Ape.
  • Masking: Align the Postage Collage Mask Stencil over the die-cut nested postage collage frame to mask the edge of the square openings. Adhere the mask with low-tack tape or using a sticky mat.
  • Ink Blending: Align the inking stencils (one at a time) over the postage frame stencil and ink blend. I used a combination of the Pattern Background Stencils and Here Comes the Sun Postage Collage Stencil.
  • Tips for Ink Blending Over Stencils:
    • Start with a light hand ink blending. You can always add more but cannot take ink away.
    • To get a smooth colour transition overlap your ink colours.
    • Stretch your colours by creating light ink colour and dark ink colour depending on how heavily you ink blend.
  • Wipe the excess ink off the collage mask.
  • With two layers of masks you may need extra blending near the mask edges due to the thickness.
  • Build Shaker Frame: Die cut and glue together 6 layers of the Postage Collage Layering Die. Save the inner pieces to raise other postage panels if desired. Align and glue the postage collage components over the stenciled background.
  • Fill the wells with shaker bits. I used colorful sequins for a rainbow effect from my stash. Adhere acetate to a single postage collage frame and glue it down to complete the shaker card.
  • Assemble Card: Adhere postage collage shaker to an A2 card base.
  • Final Touch: Stamp, heat emboss, and die cut one of the seals from the Sealed With Comforting Wishes Stamp Set and add it to the front of the shaker. Multiple layers of embossing create a thick, realistic-looking seal.Hope you ‘enjoy’ed . Stay Creative!
